Newport Care & Repair celebrate 5000th Client
Newport Care & Repair recently celebrated the provision of the service to their 5,000th client exactly five years after officially launching the Agency.
To mark the occasion, Mrs Cross, who is 87 and has lived in her terraced property for most of her life, was presented with a token entitling her to a free handyperson for a day, together with a bouquet of flowers. The gifts were presented by Phil Arnold, Agency Manager and Sally Adams, Agency Caseworker.
As a result of an initial enquiry by her son, Mrs Cross was visited soon after being discharged from hospital. Care & Repair were able to assess what her needs were in terms of making her home more comfortable, safe and secure. The property was found to have no central heating or insulation, was damp, and access to an outside toilet was unsafe.
It was established that Mrs Cross would qualify for grant assistance for both the installation of gas central heating and loft insulation and the agency is progressing applications on her behalf.
On the visit, Sally also completed preliminary application forms for local authority housing grant assistance which may be available to undertake remedial work. She also referred the case to the agency technical staff who will visit and try to come up with a solution to improve toilet access.
During the last five years, the Agency which is managed by Fairlake Properties, part of the Seren Group, in partnership with Newport City Council and Newport Local Health Board, has undertaken pieces of work for 5,000 older and disabled people who either self-referred or were referred by health and social service professionals.
