WELSH HOUSING DESIGN AWARD
Fairlake – the property development arm of The Seren Group, one of the leading care providers and housing associations in South Wales – has won a prestigious award in this year's Welsh Housing Design Awards.
Drybridge Gardens in Monmouth was the winner of the category for projects of less than 20 homes at the Awards Ceremony hosted by the Royal Society of Architects in Wales (RSAW) last Friday.
Fairlake worked closely with Ainsley Gommon Architects, Contractor Carter Lauren and the residents to design and develop the £1m Drybridge Gardens project, a court yard of 6 mobility bungalows which utilised the latest technology and modern construction techniques.
The assessors felt that the resulting design tackled the challenge of meeting the particular needs of the residents with a careful focus, whilst at the same time using an innovative design above the norm for this building type.
Darrell Bolton, Director of Fairlake said of the win; “This has been a fantastic team achievement and the Award is testament to all the hard work and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved in the project.”
Simon Venables, Partner of Ainsley Gommon Architects added; “This is a fantastic win for us in South Wales where we are looking to increase our focus and we look forward to working with Fairlake in developing future award-winning schemes!”
- Drybridge Gardens also received a Mention in the Civic Trust Awards 2005.
- The developement has also been selected by the Design Commission for Wales as an exemplar housing project to be featured on the new 'Building for Life, Wales' website.
